Welcome to the Seon Mun Sa website

The Zen Center in Vrážné (Seon Mun Sa) is a Buddhist meditation center. It is part of an organization that has more than 100 Zen centers and groups around the world. Our Zen tradition is based on the teachings of the Korean Zen Master Seung Sahn. The direction of our Zen school is to find our true nature and help the world.

On September 4, 2023, a fundraising campaign was launched by the European Kwan Um Zen School to support the Vražné Zen Center, Seon Mun Sa, in the Moravian region of the Czech Republic. The goal is to raise €20,000 within the next 90 days to complete a new kitchen addition by the end of 2023. Items needed include kitchen cabinets, countertops, sinks, stovetop, dishwasher, oven, and completion of the common area. Any excess funds over €20,000 are welcome as further renovations will be needed.

Seon Mun Sa, the Vražné Zen Center, is the main temple of the Kwan Um Zen School in the Czech Republic and its only residential center. Vražné has requested financial assistance due to the need to pay external vendors for kitchen equipment and to complete the facilities in preparation for the upcoming Kyol Che Retreat 2024. Any donation is welcome and will help support Vražné’s mission and their efforts to transform a former farm into a thriving Zen center.

George Hazlbauer JDPSN, the abbot of Seon Mun Sa, expresses gratitude for the support and invites people to visit Seon Mun Sa.

What is Zen?

Zen is very simple… What are you?

In this world, everyone is searching for happiness outside, but nobody understands their true self inside.

Everyone says, ‘I!’ ‘I want this, I am that…’ But nobody understands that ‘I.’ Where were you before you were born? When you die, where will you go? If you sincerely ask, ‘What am I?’ sooner or later you will encounter a wall, where all thinking is interrupted. We call it ‘I don’t know.’

Zen keeps this mind of 'I don't know' always and everywhere

Meditation in Zen means maintaining the mind of ‘I don’t know’ while bowing, chanting, and sitting in zazen. That is the formal Zen practice. In everyday life, when you do something, simply do it. When driving a car, just drive. When eating, just eat, and so on.

Eventually, your mind of ‘I don’t know’ will become clear. Then you can see the sky as nothing but blue. You can see a tree as nothing but green. The mind is like a clear mirror. Red comes, and the mirror is red. White comes, and the mirror is white. Then there is no longer any desire for oneself. Such a mind is already enlightenment. That is what we call Great Love, Great Compassion, the Great Way of the Bodhisattva. It is very simple!

Buddha said that all beings have Buddha nature. However, Zen Master Joju said that a dog does not have Buddha nature. Which one is right? If you find out, you will discover the true path.
